چکیده

Analysis of multiplexers with a small number of input traffic streams is appropriate considering the emergence of Voice over IP (VoIP) that is now ubiquitous in Enterprise networks. It is suggested in the literature that VoIP switches designed to cater for small/medium-sized enterprises (SME) may have as few as 8 input traffic streams [VEGA2000]. These new small switches illustrate a shift in the design of some access networks, from large routers/switches catering for as many as 30,000 users. This thesis acknowledges this change in network design and develops a new expression for the buffer overflow probability, suitable for the analysis of local Internet/enterprise networking multiplexers. The new expression builds on a previously published analytical approach that uses discrete time, excess-rate queuing theory to produce closed form results for delay distributions. The examination of small Enterprise multiplexers is supported by an extensive set of packet-level simulation results which extends the analysis to an end-to-end delay study through a series of queues, which has a wide application in VoIP networks. The results obtained through the new expression are used, in conjunction with an analytical approach based on convolution, to accurately predict the end-to-end delay distribution in small-to-medium (enterprise style) networks. The new method has application in the dimensioning of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) in VoIP networks and for planning and provisioning of service partitions in IP packet switched networks. The advantage of the new expression over a previously

Fair Bandwidth Allocation and End-to-End Delay Routing Algorithms for Wireless Mesh Networks

Quality-of-service (QoS) is essential for multimedia applications, such as video-conferencing and voice over IP (VoIP) services, in wireless mesh networks (WMNs). A consequence of many clients accessing the Internet via the same backhaul is that throughput depends on the number of hops from the backhaul. This spatial bias problem is formulated as a mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem th...

Routing and admission control with multiconstrained end-to-end quality of service in MPLS networks

Multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) networks require dynamic flow admission control to guarantee end-to-end quality of service (QoS) for each Internet protocol (IP) traffic flow. In this paper, we propose to tackle the joint routing and admission control problem for the IP traffic flows in MPLS networks with multiconstrained end-to-end QoS. We propose a mathematical programming model for this ...

Analysis and Simulation of Delay and Buffer Requirements of satellite-ATM Networks for TCP/IP Traffic

In this paper we present a model to study the end-to-end delay performance of a satellite-ATM network. We describe a satellite-ATM network architecture. The architecture presents a trade-off between the on-board switching/processing features and the complexity of the satellite communication systems. The end-to-end delay of a connection passing through a satellite constellation consists of the t...

A Reliable Routing Algorithm for Delay Sensitive Data in Body Area Networks

Wireless body Area networks (WBANs) include a number of sensor nodes placed inside or on the human body to improve patient health and quality of life. Ensuring the transfer and receipt of data in sensitive data is a very important issue. Routing algorithms should support a variety of service quality such as reliability and delay in sending and receiving data. Loss of information or excessive da...

Performance Evaluation on 6LoWPAN and PANA in IEEE 802.15.4g Mesh Networks

In this paper, we evaluate performance of 6LoWPAN and PANA over a mesh network based on mathematical analysis, considering IEEE 802.15.4 MAC/PHYbehavior, 6LoWPAN behavior including fragmentation and PANA protocol behavior. End-to-end IP packet error rate, mean end-to-end IP packet delay, PANA session failure rate and mean PANA session establishment delay are used as the performance criteria. We...
